postal art, also known as mail art and correspondence art, is an artistic movement that focuses on the mailing of small-format works by the postal service. It originally developed from Ray Johnson's New York School of Correspondence and the fluxus movements of the 1960s, but has since evolved into a global movement that continues to this day.
commonly used media in mail art include postcards, paper, a collage of found or recycled images and objects, stamps, artist-made stamps (called artist stamps) and paint, but also music, sound art, poetry, or anything else. It can be put in an envelope and sent by mail. An e-mail image is considered a work of art after it has been sent. Mail artists regularly refer (often without a jury) to thematic or contemporary mail art to use in the exhibition.
